Internship Opportunities

The Portland Central America Solidarity Committee educates and mobilizes community members, workers and students around struggles for human rights and social justice throughout the Americas. Currently we are engaged in work for immigrants’ rights and global justice with a focus on grassroots movements emerging from Latin America.

All internships require the following:

  • 5-10 hours per week
  • 3-6 month commitment
  • Collaboration with PCASC staff and member leaders

All internships are unpaid, but request for academic credit will be considered.

Immigrants Rights Campaign Interns

PCASC is seeking motivated interns committed to support our immigrants rights campaign while using methods of popular education within our work. Intern will work both independently and collaboratively with a PCASC leaders on the Safe Communities Project to keep Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) from collaborating with local law enforcement to deport immigrants.


Global Justice Campaign Intern

PCASC’s HOLA committee seeks an intern strongly interested in issues of anti-militarization, US corporate impact in Latin America, and a world beyond capitalism! Intern will support the committee in organizing around the Drug War Campaign. The Drug War campaign focuses on the root causes of the drug war, increased militarism in Latin America, violence resulting from the war, and legislative pressure to stop funding the drug war.

PCASC Digital Media History Internship

The Digital Media Archivist Intern will be one member of a the history project team with the specific purpose of digitizing, organizing, and preparing current PCASC media history for web access. This internship is an opportunity to learn moving image cataloging, digitizing of old formats, and creating accessible websites for media resources. Interns will be working with both edited and unedited, often unpublished, media in a dynamic social justice environment with documentary or nonfiction materials.

Qualifications:

  • Experience or skills in video production or digital media;
  • Interest in people’s history and human rights advocacy;
  • Background in moving image archives, library science, archival studies, human rights, Latin American studies, or media production;

Membership Development Internship

Description:

PCASC is seeking a membership development intern.  Fundamental to a non-profit organization are effective fundraising and membership development. The goal of this position is to learn, use, and evaluate current systems to develop future membership building strategies.  A major goal is to build a solid financial base through monthly donations from supporters. Donations from individual supporters make up one-third of our budget, interns will work to increase this percentage in order to make our organization financially sustainable.
This is a financial position, three references are required along with you resume and a writing sample.

Information and Technology Assistant Internship


PCASC is seeking a highly motivated and well-organized Information & Technology Intern to help with our day-to-day technology needs. Your responsibilities include maintaining our internal network, updating software, troubleshooting typical problems, and developing creative uses for technology in the organization.

Graphic Design Internship

PCASC is seeking a creative and self-motivated graphic designer, strongly interested in combining the arts with social activism. The internship provides a unique opportunity to produce original body of work (to be incorporated into artists’ personal portfolio). Interns will gain practical and valuable experience in design, while learning to work in a vibrant grassroots community-organizing environment. Your primary responsibility will be creating a reusable template for the PCASC newsletter, La Lucha Solidaria.

 

Development & Grant Writing Internship

The Development & Grant Writing intern for PCASC will have the opportunity to work with the Development Committee and staff and assist in the areas of development and grant writing. Interns will be responsible for researching potential grants and soliciting other development opportunities that align with the mission and vision of the Portland Central America Solidarity Committee. Interns will collaborate with staff members to select promising funding opportunities and serve a pivotal role in pursuing these opportunities. Interns will also be involved in writing and submitting a grant to provide funding for the campaigns of PCASC.
