Resistance in Bloom Spring Brunch

Resistance in Bloom Spring Brunch

Registration is closed for this event
Join the Portland Central America Solidarity Committee and friends for our annual Resistance in Bloom Spring Brunch.

Direct action can reunite families, win fair contracts, improve working conditions, and preserve ecosystems. Throughout the Americas, sit-ins, strikes, blockades, occupations and other direct action tactics are being used to confront injustice. What does creative, strategic, effective, and empowering direct action look like? How can it help us transform our world?

This year we will host four organizers from different campaigns to explore strategy and uses of direct action.

Speakers will include:

Emily Cruma teacher in Reynolds School District at Salish Elementary School. She teaches 1st/2nd grade this year. Emily was an organizing member in the 2012 Reynolds School strike that won a better contract for teachers and was active in the Portland teachers struggle this winter.

Maralena Murphy, member of Portland Rising Tide to discuss the blockades and various direct actions throughout the region as opposition grows against energy export terminals and extraction shipments throughout the NW.

Liliana Luna, a member of the Northwest BringThemHome team and Oregon Dream Activists, recently returned from the US/Mexico border, where a massive direct action by 150 individuals crossed the border demanding asylum.

Paige Shell-Spurling, activist and organizer with ASOTRECOL in Colombia. Workers who were injured while working for General Motors have been in a near thousand day occupation outside of the US Embassy in Bogota. Workers are currently engaged in a hunger strike in their fight for economic justice.

Join us for a timely and relevant discussion and a delicious meal sponsored by
Blossoming Lotus Portland whose vegan menu continues to honor the fight for collective liberation for all species.
